10 Essential Planning Tips For Awesome Family Road Trip

Are you planning a family road trip? Do you need some planning tips?

Taking a road trip with kids can be fun but also takes planning.

It can be a cheaper option to be able to take the family somewhere you have always wanted to go.

This article will give you some planning ideas on taking a road trip with the family.

Hopefully, this will help make your road trip a lot easier.

How Do I Prepare For A Family Road Trip?

1. Leave At Night

Leaving at night can have some benefits such as sleep. The kids will probably sleep through a big portion of the trip.

You won’t have all the distractions of are we there yet or fighting.

2. Go To The Bathroom Before You Leave

You want to make sure everyone goes to the bathroom before you leave.

You don’t want to get 20 minutes into the trip and have to find a place to go to the bathroom. During one of our road trips, I made that mistake and it was hard trying to pull over and find a bathroom.

Most areas will have a gas station or rest area, but sometimes you get on those areas where there is nothing around.

3. Plan Breaks

It is always a good idea if you can plan your breaks.

Everything doesn’t always work out as you want, especially when you are traveling with kids, but it is always a good idea to have a plan.

4. Prepare For Emergencies

You hope nothing bad will happen but you never know, it is always best to plan for emergencies and carry emergency supplies.

5. Plan For Sickness

You might not think you or the kids will get motion sickness but it is a real possibility.

On one of our road trips, my little boy got 30 minutes into the trip and vomited all over the car. I was not prepared and did not have a bucket or anything.

Ever since then I always carry a motion sickness bag or bucket with us just in case. I also like to have hand sanitizer, wipes, sandwich bags, and garbage bags.

6. Pack Lots Of Snacks

9. Switch Drivers

If you have more than one driver it is always a good idea to switch drivers so the other person can get some rest
