Taco Soup Ingredients

Ground Beef: I used lean ground beef for this recipe. You could substitute for ground turkey or pork if you prefer.

Taco Seasoning: used a package of store-bought taco seasoning for this recipe and added garlic powder and red pepper flakes to it.

Corn: can corn is used for this recipe.

Beans: I used black beans and kidney beans. You could add or substitute for pinto beans. Drain and rinse the beans before adding to the pot.

Minced Garlic: a little bit goes a long way.

Beef Broth: adds liquid and a tasty flavor.

Garlic Powder: a little extra garlic is needed to really tie this recipe together.

Red Pepper Flakes: adds a little extra spicy flavor.

Olive Oil: only a little needed to coat the pot while heating. I used olive oil, you can use whatever type of oil you have.

How To Make Taco Soup

  • Gather all your ingredients.
  • Cut onion into small pieces and set aside.
  • Open can of corn, kidney beans, and black beans and drain.
  • Rinse kidney and black beans. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl combine taco seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Stir around and set aside.
  • Heat a large pot on medium heat with a small amount of oil.
  • Add ground beef and onions. Stir around breaking apart any chunks of ground beef. Cook until browned.

  • Return to stove and add corn, kidney beans, and black beans. Stir around.

  • Add minced garlic and stir well.
  • Next, add 3 cups of beef broth and mix around.

  • Now add your seasoning and stir well to combine all the ingredients together.

  • Cover pot and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, depending on how soft you want your beans to be.
  • Enjoy.
  • Top with sour cream and cheese if you like.

Can I Substitute Ingredients?

I prefer to use ground beef, but you can substitute for ground turkey or ground pork. If you don’t like it a little spicy you can omit the red pepper flakes. You can add your favorite veggies to this soup. I made this one simple and quick to make but feel free to add additional vegetables.

How To Store Taco Soup?

Refrigerator: Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days. If you want to keep it longer I recommend freezing. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Freeze: This soup freezes well. Freeze extras to enjoy later.
