How Long Does It Take To Cook
It takes about 20-25 minutes to cook chicken drumsticks in the oven depending upon the temperature used. For this recipe, I cooked the chicken drumsticks at 400 degrees in the oven for 25 minutes.
Do You Have To Flip Over In The Oven
Yes, it is best to flip the drumsticks halfway through the cooking time to make sure each side cooks evenly.
How Do You Know When Chicken Legs Are Done
Use a thermometer to check the chicken legs. The temperature should read between 160-165. If you don’t have a thermometer you can poke the chicken with a knife. The chicken leg is done when the juices run clear.
Storing Instructions
Let the chicken drumsticks cool down and then wrap them well. Store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
How To Reheat
You can reheat chicken drumsticks in the oven, microwave or on the stove.
Reheating In The Oven
To reheat in the oven, preheat the oven to 400. Line a greased baking sheet with tin foil. Add chicken legs to the baking sheet. Then spread extra BBQ sauce on your chicken drumsticks and cook for 10 minutes. After that cooking time, you will switch to broil and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
On The Stove
To reheat chicken drumsticks on the stove you will first heat a frying pan with oil on high heat. Then you will add the chicken drumsticks and reduce the heat to medium. Then fry the chicken turning frequently and cook until heated.
In The Microwave
To reheat in the microwave place chicken in a microwave-safe dish and cover. Microwave for 2-3 minutes or until heated. I don’t prefer to heat my leftover chicken in the microwave.
Directions
The first thing to do is to gather all your ingredients so that you have everything that you need close by.
Next, remove the chicken legs from the package and either place them in a bowl or a gallon-sized sandwich bag. Add 2 teaspoons of olive oil to the chicken.
In a small bowl combine garlic powder, basil, and Montreal steak seasoning. Stir around to mix it together.
Add your seasoning to the chicken and mix around well. Place the chicken in the refrigerator and marinate for a minimum of 30 minutes. I like to marinate the chicken for 2-12 hours if I have the time.
Preheat the oven to 400.
Line a greased baking sheet with tin foil. Place chicken on the baking sheet and cook for 15 minutes.
Remove chicken from the oven and flip the chicken drumsticks over. Continue cooking for another 10 minutes.
While the chicken is cooking you can prepare the BBQ Sauce. In a small bowl add the honey BBQ sauce and 3 teaspoons of minced garlic and stir around well.
Check the chicken to see if it is cooked with either a thermometer or poking it with a knife to see if the juices run clear. When it is done cooking you will apply the BBQ Sauce.
Brush the BBQ sauce on both sides of the chicken drumsticks making sure to coat it well with BBQ sauce. Now return the chicken back to the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes making sure to check that the top of the chicken doesn’t burn or dry out.
Remove from the oven and enjoy.
Tips
If you can marinate the chicken for a couple of hours or overnight it will really enhance the flavor. Make sure you marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Watch your broil time so the top of your chicken legs don’t burn or become dry.
Flip the chicken drumsticks halfway through your cooking time.
Apply lots of BBQ sauce to the chicken legs.
Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the chicken drumsticks.
