Easy Lasagna With Cottage Cheese

Nothing is better than a hot lasagna. Delicious meat sauce, creamy, cheesy, and absolutely tasty. Great filling meal the whole family can enjoy.

This recipe does use cottage cheese instead of the traditional ricotta cheese. My family likes cottage cheese and I wanted to try something different. Give it a try and see what you think.

Shopping List

The following ingredients will be needed to make this recipe. You will need ground beef, lasagna noodles, garlic powder, salt, dried cilantro flakes, onion, traditional pasta sauce, cottage cheese, egg, parsley flakes, parmesan cheese, and mozzarella cheese.

How Long Does It Take To Make?

You will need to plan for 25 minutes of preparation time to cook the noodles and make the sauce. Then you will need an additional 50-60 minutes to bake the lasagna.

How To Store?

Properly stored lasagna should last in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Can You Make Ahead?

You can prepare the lasagna ahead of time and then refrigerate for up to 2 days before baking.

Can You Freeze Lasagna?

Yes, you can freeze lasagna. After cooking, you will want to let it cool down completely. If you try to freeze hot lasagna it could cause ice crystals to form which can lead to freezer burn and mushy lasagna.

Once cooled down, wrap it tightly with plastic wrap. Cover the top with tin foil. if you are freezing cooked lasagna you can cut it and portion it out and then freeze in smaller freezer-safe containers or wrap the lasagna individually with plastic wrap and then freeze in freezer-safe bags.

Label with the name and date and then freeze. Lasagna can last in the freezer for up to 3 months.

How To Reheat?

Reheat lasagna in the oven for 30 minutes or until fully heated.

Thaw frozen lasagna and then bake in the oven. Bake for 65-70 minutes or until fully heated. During the last 10-15 minutes of cooking time remove the foil so you can brown the top. Let the lasagna sit for 10-15 minutes before eating.

Does Cottage Cheese Make Lasagna Watery?

It can, I recommend using full-fat cottage cheese. You can also drain some of the cheese before using it.

How Do You Layer Lasagna?

I like to start by adding a small amount of sauce to the bottom of the pan. Then I will add noodles, cottage cheese mixture, sauce, and then repeat until I get to the top. The last step will be to add the meat sauce followed by the mozzarella cheese.

Substitutions

If you don’t want to use straight ground beef you can mix 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of Italian sausage.

I used cottage cheese for this recipe if you don’t like cottage cheese you can use ricotta cheese.
